A compact guided wave ultrasonic inspection system designed for rapid detection of hidden corrosion in pipes and light poles—especially in hard-to-access areas such as under supports. Utilizing dry-point-contact (DPC) transducers, the system requires no couplant and enables efficient field deployment. The scanner performs a full 360° circumferential scan, capturing high-resolution B-scan images that clearly indicate corrosion locations and severity. Applications
The inspection task involves the detection of hidden corrosion in metallic structures such as pipelines and light poles, particularly in hard-to-access areas, for example beneath pipe supports. Using guided ultrasonic waves and Dry-Point-Contact (DPC) transducers, the entire circumference of the structure is scanned over 360°. During the inspection, the system acquires multi-channel ultrasonic data at various measurement positions and generates B-scan images using the Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT). This enables users to determine the location and severity of corrosion without having to dismantle the structure or interrupt operation.
